Schools News: Latest!

The main focus of recent work is the DAF project intended to increase the capacity of BME organisations and faith groups in Wales to engage in ESDGC.  Following interest expressed during the initial roundtable event back in the Spring, a second roundtable will take place on 8 October at the Temple of Peace.  This will provide further opportunity for organisations to ‘get to know each other’ and to begin to identify training needs with regard to ESDGC.  Organisations involved in the project are invited to attend the Introduction to ESDGC training that will now take place on 22 October.

Cyfanfyd staff (Liz and Dominic) attended a training workshop in London looking at ways to effectively monitor and evaluate DAF projects and these techniques will be used to ensure accountability and understanding of what is effective as the project gets underway.

If you represent a BME organisation or minority faith group and would like to know more about this project please contact liz@cyfanfyd.org.uk

New Resource for Secondary Schools – TIDE recently launched Enabling a Connected Curriculum – opportunities for global learning at key stage 3 (www.tidec.org) which explores teaching and learning strategies to best meet the needs of learners in a changing global context.  The conference which launched the resource provided opportunities to consider ESDGC within and across the curriculum as well as using themes such as ‘climate change’ or ‘cities’ to explore global issues across the curriculum.  The conference provided an opportunity to meet Cathryn Gathercole (Practical Action) who will be taking over from Scott Sinclair as the new director of TIDE.
