Temporary Project Officer

To work towards increasing the capacity of Black and Minority Ethnic and minority faith organisations in Wales to engage with and deliver Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship and increase awareness of the Millennium Development Goals.

Six month contract: October 2009 – March 2010
Part-time: 21 hours per week
Salary : £26,706 pro rata (NJC Point 32 – Pay award pending)

Summary of Project

Merging Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship (GC) in Wales has created an imbalance between the two areas (Estyn 2006).  GC and Development Education (DE) have, to some extent, been subsumed by ESD.  This project would reinforce GC and DE by increasing capacity of the BME/faith sector to deliver ESDGC and enhance it by incorporating black and southern perspectives into mainstream work.  BME organisations and faith groups in Wales lack the capacity to be fully involved in ESDGC although their knowledge and expertise brings an invaluable perspective to development education.  Working with the sector the project would identify and address specific training needs and support their delivery of ESDGC in formal and informal education.  Engagement with the BME/faith sector would increase the diversity of organisations involved in ESDGC and enhance its delivery raising awareness and knowledge of the MDGs and development in Wales and overseas.
